What you tolerate. Most do not realise how much energy they spend adjusting to their environment.
You get used to the entry that never quite works. That there is nowhere comfortable to put things when you walk in. That the kitchen requires more movement than it should. That the lighting is too bright in some places and too dim in others.
You adapt to a routine that kind of works, but is quietly undermined.
One project shifted completely after conversations about mornings and evenings.
Once we understood how the family actually moved through the home before and after work and school each day, it became clear the kitchen area was the true focal point of daily life for these clients.
The existing layout technically functioned, but contained multiple small moments of friction throughout the day.
Everyone pushing past each other trying to access the fridge at the same time. Having to walk back and forth to the other side of the kitchen when unloading the dishwasher. Kids doing their homework on the dining table then having to move all of their things when it was time to eat.
Our revised layout fell within the existing building footprint, but it fundamentally changed how the home would feel to live in and the calming impact on everyone's routine.
