The Design Story
Within a compact 30sqm Bondi Beach studio apartment, Patina Design Studio reconfigured the layout to create a highly flexible home centred around personality, comfort and everyday liveability.
The brief was to move away from a sterile or overly minimal aesthetic and instead create a space that felt layered, personal and deeply connected to the way the client lives. Rich timbers, deep tonal finishes, wallpapered ceilings and softer coastal references were carefully balanced to create a moodier interpretation of beachside living without relying on literal coastal clichés.
The layout was completely restructured to maximise functionality while prioritising views toward Bondi Beach. Through highly tailored custom joinery and considered furniture planning, Patina Design Studio effectively tripled the original wardrobe storage capacity while creating distinct zones for living, working, sleeping and entertaining within the open-plan studio.
A custom bed with additional integrated storage, a sofa that converted into an additional sleeping space and multi-functional joinery elements allowed the apartment to feel highly flexible and efficient without compromising warmth or personality. Existing kitchen cabinetry was also refinished rather than replaced, including the introduction of bespoke liquid metal upper cabinetry that added depth and material contrast throughout the space.
